Premier Sales Leader Training Program
Kalmar relies on North American network of dealers to demonstrate and sell a specialty materials handling truck called
the Ottawa Kalmar trailer mover. Turnover of sales people is high at dealerships and Ottawa Kalmar was having
difficulty encouraging sales people to study brochures, videos and other product literature. Sales training was offered
at the company’s headquarters, but many dealers did not want to invest several thousand dollars to send their sales
people to the training. With that in mind, ProAct developed the Web-based Premier Sales Leader training program,
which combined a unique delivery system of the resource training materials along with direct mail, incentives,
recognition and interactive knowledge testing. Dealer sales managers and sales people were initially mailed a 128 MB
USB port memory stick containing a product demonstration video and other resource materials. Then every three
weeks, each participant received another direct mail piece containing a gift, additional product resources and
instructions on how to take the review tests online. If the trainee completed all five review tests online, they received a
training certificate and Ottawa Kalmar jacket. The online review tests were designed in such a way to allow the trainee
to receive instant feedback if a question was incorrectly answered.
